3D Watercolour Animation – Where the Wild Returns

This project took about 2 months to complete both animations. I used blender for this project and rendered in EEVEE. Most assets were created by me, with some background elements from Polyhaven. Everything was modelled in Blender and textured in Substance Painter. To achieve the painterly style, I used the Brushstroke Tools addon for the paint strokes and Grease Pencil line art for outlines.
Compositing was done in Blender, with final passes processed using the Kuwahara filter based on the render normal, so the underside of the objects in the scene are further effect by the filters than the top. For the magpie shot, I used an AOV pass with UV-space noise textures on each model to create edge fuzziness and distortion that stays consistent across camera movement.
Final edits and audio were done in DaVinci Resolve.
